Oh Praise (The Only One)

Luke here! Hope the week is treating you all well.

I spend a lot of my time during the week seeking out new music, or new versions, arrangements of songs that are familiar. I seek out songs that sing great theology and great adoration to God. Lately my desire to find that music has increased because as Fathom grows from its infancy, I want to find songs that will ring true to Fathom’s mission and beliefs. My hope is that the children grow up singing songs that aren’t just popular for a year and then become outdated, but that have such a great text and timelessness that our church can sing it in every season.

Honestly, nothing grabs me when I’m listening than a fantastic, singable, inspiring chorus! I love when I find something that gets stuck in my head like any other pop tune on the radio but that is a song that I can hear the voices of our church body singing loudly.

This week, I discovered one of those songs! It is called Oh Praise (The Only One) and it is FANTASTIC! I probably have listened to it at least 8 times just in the first three hours of my day. Below is the youtube video. I encourage you guys to listen to the words and melodies that caught me and carried me into a place of not only reflection, but praise. And if you like it as much as I do, head on over to iTunes and buy it! Put it on your stereo at home, on your iPhone for the car or headphones at work!

The reasons I love this song are fairly simple, and I think you’ll agree. This song has the entire gospel message in its verses and then has an absolutely fantastic responsive chorus that we, as a congregation, sing in response to that good news.

The verses walk us through God coming down as man and through his death clothing us in His righteousness and making us free from death, AND heirs of Christ.

OH PRAISE THE ONLY ONE!

It follows with our security forever in Christ’s sacrifice and how that brings us joy that is absolutely untouchable by any other means, moving us to sing:

OH PRAISE THE ONLY ONE!

The last verse simply states we are grateful for the previous three verses. We acknowledge what the Lord did, and we are grateful in our songs, and we proudly bear his name and proclaim:

OH PRAISE THE ONLY ONE!
